PHARMAC receives over 300 submissions to Herceptin consultation
9 June 2008

Read the Submission made by BCAC here (downloadable pdf).

BCAC wishes to thank all the wonderful supporters and friends who made their submissions to PHARMAC through our website. The response was tremendous and we thank you so much for supporting BCAC's goal to 'make a difference together' for our women.

PHARMAC has reported (press release 9 June) it received over 300 submissions on its proposal to decline 12 months of Herceptin funding for NZ women with early stage HER2 positive breast cancer.

New Zealand is the only country in the world to fund only 9 weeks of Herceptin for its women. 33 other countries fund 12 months for their populations.

A full discussion of these funding issues can be found on our special Herceptin page.

A press release from PHARMAC 9 June indicated that a decision on the funding issue would not be made before the end of July.

PHARMAC CEO Matthew Brougham stated in a 9 June 2008 press release that  "... the steps we are taking will ensure that when the PHARMAC board is asked to make its decision, it does so with all necessary information to enable it to make the best decision possible."
