BCAC has been working on this initiative for almost two years and we have made significant progress. Our aim is to ensure consistent, high quality detection and treatment of breast cancer throughout New Zealand by promoting the development and implementation of evidence-based best practice clinical guidelines. Guidelines are needed as a resource to guide the work of our health professionals, ensuring they are aware of the most effective strategies based upon the latest evidence. Such a resource will improve processes of care, reduce errors and variations and ensure a consistency of quality care for breast cancer patients. Best of all, best practice guidelines will improve patient outcomes.
