The latest edition of BCAC’s popular Step by Step support pack with new and updated information on breast cancer treatment and care is now flying off the shelves to newly diagnosed women around the country.

BCAC recently reviewed, updated and reprinted the much-loved breast cancer support pack. Step by Step’s new edition includes information that helps you cope with the emotional fallout of a breast cancer diagnosis and provides more details about how to best look after yourself after treatment.

This year we welcomed the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF) on board as principal funder of Step by Step, but many other organisations have also made generous contributions to ensure this valuable resource reaches as many women as possible.

BCAC is grateful for the support of the following:
·    the National Screening Unit of the Ministry of Health
·    Southern Trust
·    The Lion Foundation
·    Trillian Trust
·    Pelorus Trust.

BCAC chair, Libby Burgess, says the revision and reprint of Step by Step was a major undertaking for BCAC and simply would not have been possible without the support of all these organisations.

“We’re so grateful to NZBCF, the Trusts and the Ministry of Health for their generous donations. They have helped to fund a costly revision and reprint of Step by Step, but the finished product is amazing and will provide much reassurance to many Kiwi women,” Libby says.

BCAC believes the changes made to Step by Step will help to give the kiwi women and men diagnosed the information and support they need to make informed decisions about their treatment and care.

The new edition features several new sections, including:
·    dealing with the emotional fallout of a breast cancer diagnosis
·    fertility issues for younger women
·    coping with sexuality and intimacy after breast cancer treatment
·    men with breast cancer
·    looking after yourself following treatment.

BCAC’s Step by Step support packs consist of an information book with details about breast cancer types, treatment and care; a diary to record medical information; and a journal to write down thoughts and feelings.
