October is fast approaching and that means Breast Cancer Action month. As a breast cancer team the Pink Dragons are keen to help raise awareness by supporting fund raising events whenever they can so many of them are signing up to help collect for both the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal and the Pink Star Walk in Auckland Domain. Earlier in the year one team member hosted a Pink Ribbon Breakfast at her house supported by many of the Pinkies - it was a lot of fun as well as raising money for breast cancer.

The new dragon boat season will be underway soon and the Pink Dragons are once again looking for new paddlers to join the team. If you’ve had treatment for breast cancer and you’re looking for a fun way to get back into sport and fitness there’s no better way than to join their team. Our twice weekly training starts early November and as a team they will be taking part in regattas throughout the season.

What can you expect if you join their team? They are a team of women, but men are also welcome, who have experienced breast cancer themselves and know just what it’s like getting back on track following surgery and treatment. They can offer support and camaraderie, and guarantee you will have fun at the same time as getting your fitness levels back.

Whether you have just finished your treatment or are years down the line, if you think you may be interested and want to find out more go to their website, www.pinkdragons.org.nz or contact Anete Smith on 0211216187 or email info@pinkdragons.org.nz  Be warned dragon boating is very addictive!!

End of an Era
The Pink Dragons came to an end of era recently when long standing Team Manager, Robin Gamble, decided to step down from the role and relax for the next few years as “just a paddler”.Robin joined the Pink dragons at its inception in 2005 and has given huge amounts of her time and energy to both the team and the sport of Dragon Boating in Auckland ever since.

Not only has Robin been one of the most consistent team members but she has also served her time with positions on the committee for Auckland Dragon boat and, if anything needed to be done for the team or the association, Robin is always there to lend a hand.

The Pink Dragons have acknowledged Robin’s contribution to the team by awarding her Life Membership of Pink Dragons and look forward to paddling with her for many years to come.
