Busting with Life, along with the Pink Dragons, competed at the World Masters Games in April.

With the World Masters Games right here in our hood it seemed only right and proper that the two Auckland Breast Cancer Survivors Dragon Boat Teams combined forces to take on the world.

Both the Busting with Life and Pink Dragons teams ply the waters of the Waitemata Harbour and usually compete head to head together with six other 100% BC survivor teams in New Zealand.

The plan for World Masters was to create a new team The Pink C.A.P.S. (Combined Auckland Paddling Squad), train together at the conclusion of the summer season and see what they could achieve.

There is no cancer survivors division at the World Masters but, undeterred, they entered in their respective age groups of 50+ and 60+ Womens Masters. While it was a diagnosis of breast cancer that brought them together, it’s the love of their sport and the fun they have on and off the water that drove them to push themselves further than many of them thought possible.

And push they did! Three silver and one bronze medal later they stepped up to the Winners Podium as proud as if they'd won a Gold Medal at the Olympics!

If you would like to try the wonderful sport of Dragon Boating, both teams are currently recruiting and they’d love to take you for a spin and let you try it for yourself.
