“That was one of my best birthdays ever,” Libby says after her friends, family and supporters gifted more than $2400 to BCAC in honour of her birthday.

“The Good Registry makes it so simple – we just set up a gift registry, told everyone about it and they dealt with the rest. I have been blown away by everyone’s generosity,” says Libby. “There’s a lot of love out there and I’m so happy that BCAC can benefit.”

Libby capped off her birthday’s lockdown celebrations with a video-chat party that brought in friends and family from all over NZ and even from overseas. Cake was cut and glasses were raised. “Many in the breast cancer community are great online communicators already,” says Libby. “It was awesome to use this technology for some fun and a good cause.”

BCAC’s services are continuing during the Covid-19 crisis. “We can still post out ‘Step by Step’ support packs, and all online support services and resources are fully functional,” says Treasurer Louise Malone. “BCAC doesn’t actually have a physical office – we all work from our homes already, so we’re pretty well set up for operating under lockdown conditions.”

BCAC is lucky to be one of The Good Registry’s founding charities. If you have a birthday or event coming up, especially now while the shops and restaurants are shut, please consider setting up a gift registry for BCAC on their website  TheGoodRegistry.com.

Those newly diagnosed with breast cancer can order a Step by Step pack through BCAC’s website breastcancer.org.nz, which also has lots of useful information and news. Check out BCAC’s Facebook pages too @BreastCancerAotearoaCoalition.
