Rotorua Breast Cancer Trust Virtual Pink Walk

 

The Rotorua Breast Cancer Trust (RBCT) Pink Walk is still going ahead on Wednesday 20th of October… as a VIRTUAL event!

How will it work? Read on.

FOR INDIVIDUALS OR FAMILY/FRIEND GROUPS

1.       Register for the Virtual Pink Walk (if you live outside of New Zealand, you can still take part and support whanau here).

2.       Get together and enjoy a walk anytime, anywhere on Wednesday 20th October DRESSED IN PINK.

3.       Upload a photo of your group or yourself, and you’ll go in the draw to win one of our awesome prizes!

FOR BUSINESSES AND ORGANISATIONS

1.       Register your business, organisation, or school for our ‘Paint the Town Pink’ competition as part of the Pink Walk.

2.       Decorate your office, shop, classroom and yourselves in PINK on the 20th of October.

3.       One of RBCT's roving Pink Judges will pay you a visit, take a photo of your entry and take it back to the Trustees for voting.

4.       The winning business/organisation will receive our Paint the Town Pink Trophy and awesome prizes from our generous sponsors!

Sounds pretty cool, right? And the best part? All funds raised from the Pink Walk go towards supporting Rotorua people and their families as they navigate their way through their breast cancer journeys.

The Virtual Pink Walk means that no matter what the Alert Level on the 20th October, you can all still go ahead and walk and support those with breast cancer in the Rotorua community.

Mindfulness Course

 

Mindfulness can help you deal with the anxiety, emotions and pain of recovering from cancer. 

Fear and uncertainty about the future often follow breast cancer treatment and research has shown that Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) training may help reduce emotional distress, anxiety and fatigue after cancer.

MBSR is an 8-week evidence-based mindfulness training course. Mindfulness Aotearoa have qualified teachers experienced in working with people who’ve had cancer. MBSR can help you move forward after cancer and enjoy life again.

When: Tuesdays from 28th Oct - 14th Dec, with a full day of Mindfulness Sat 4th Dec

BCAC AGM

 

BCAC Annual General Meeting

When: Tuesday, 30 November 2021

Time: 6:30-8 pm

Where: Online, via live video software Zoom.

With the ongoing challenges caused by  COVID-19 alert level changes and uncertainty, our AGM will again take place online this year.

All are welcome to join the meeting online to hear from BCAC Chair Libby Burgess and the committee. You will also have the opportunity to meet new committee members, see our 2021 highlights and hear about our plans for the year ahead. Please do come along.

Life on Ibrance webinar - BCFNZ

This Breast Cancer Foundation NZ webinar looks what you need to know when being treated with Ibrance, from scheduling appointments, negotiating dosages and managing side effects.

Ibrance is a kind of drug called CDK4/6 inhibitor that has been publicly funded in New Zealand since April 2020. In this webinar, an expert panel will discuss how Ibrance is used in treatment for advanced breast cancer, managing common side effects and the practicalities of being on Ibrance.

This webinar may also be helpful for those taking Kisqali (ribociclib) and Verzenio (abemaciclib).

Meet the panel

Dr David Porter is a medical oncologist at Auckland City Hospital. He will discuss who is given Ibrance and when, and the clinical trial evidence around its use.

Karen Spells is a clinical nurse specialist working in oncology and with breast cancer patients. She will give advice on practicalities of appointments and tests and how to manage common side effects. 

Cheryl Carr started Ibrance a few weeks ago, while Jacquie Dabrowski has been on Ibrance since 2018. They will share their experience of managing appointments, side effects and how it's impacted their lives.
